The Scootaloo Chat Server!
IT’S TIME TO ADVERTISE THE SCOOTALOO CHAT SERVER AGAIN!
What is it?
Scoots is a public chat server where pretty much anyone can join and chat! It fully supports private messages as well as multiple rooms, although most of the users live in the all-purpose General room.
How long has it been going?
This will be our third year!
How many people use it?
At last count there were 143 registered users, although typically speaking only 20 are logged in during active periods. We’re constantly trying to increase this number!
When is it active then?
The chat is most lively between 4pm and 2am GMT. Outside of those times there’s usually a few people in there, but they’re working, sleeping, etc. You are welcome to try to change that!
What stops people spamming / being rude?
There are chat moderators. Currently all of them are from the UK though - we need some American mods, and will add some if it turns out we need them urgently!
What’s special about it over Skype?
Skype is the de-facto standard of Tumblr, yes, but the problem is Skype was never built to have the massive group chats that we tend to create. Anyone in them can vouch for how buggy they can get, with the infinite pencils and sync problems.
Scoots is designed for many users at once, so none of that is a problem. Technically it supports voice chat, but we don’t tend to use it.
It also is, quite famously, a public chat room. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need to be invited or voted in!
We also have a bot called Sweetie Bot who does all sorts of cool things. She’s cool.
I have more questions!
How do I join?
You can join using this guide here (for those of you who know computers, it’s an XMPP server :) ). We’ll get a web based chat thingie up if people show interest!
(We know the guide looks complicated, it’s really not. We just made sure we didn’t miss a SINGLE step so you could all do it perfectly!)
Hope to see you there!
